Kristin Cavallari is opening up about a painful chapter in her personal life—and why she hasn’t spoken to her father in three years.
The 38-year-old reality TV star revealed on a recent episode of Harry Jowsey’s podcast Boyfriend Material that she made the difficult decision to cut her dad, Dennis Cavallari, out of her life after a disturbing incident involving her children.
“He traumatized my kids,” she said bluntly. “And I have no room for that in my life.”

“No Accountability, No Apology”
Kristin—who shares three children (Camden, 12; Jaxon, 10; and Saylor, 9) with ex-husband Jay Cutler—explained that the final straw came when Dennis “crossed the line” with one of her sons. But what truly sealed the fallout, she said, was his complete refusal to acknowledge or apologize for his behavior.
“That’s a deal breaker for me, especially when he had zero accountability and no apology,” she explained.
The Laguna Beach and The Hills alum added that, as a mother, she would go to great lengths to repair a broken bond with her own children if roles were reversed.
“If I had a kid and I really f*ed up, I would do everything imaginable to not let that happen. I’d be showing up at your house, begging for forgiveness,” she said.
“And my dad in a lot of ways was like, ‘OK.’”

A History of Emotional Turmoil
This isn’t the first time Kristin has spoken publicly about her rocky relationship with her father. In a December 2023 episode of her Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast, she discussed the long-term emotional damage, even calling her father a narcissist who often gaslighted her.
“I actually didn’t even realize that my dad was a narcissist until I was an adult,” she shared at the time.
“I can take the abuse—I have my whole life. But when you start messing with my kids, I’m not doing it.”

While some might find it difficult to sever ties with a parent, Kristin says the choice became simple once her children were involved.
For her, motherhood comes first—and she’s making no apologies for protecting her family, even if it means letting go of her own blood.
“I always had a rough relationship with my dad,” she admitted. “But this was the line I wouldn’t allow to be crossed.”
