Real Madrid is entering a new era under recently appointed head coach Xabi Alonso, and the club is already taking bold steps to fine-tune its squad ahead of the upcoming season. According to Marca, the Spanish giants have put Miguel GutiérrezTakefusa Kubo, and Mario Gila on the transfer market, signaling a significant reshuffle as Alonso begins laying the groundwork for his tactical vision.

Squad Rebuilding Underway

Although the three players are not currently on Madrid’s books, Los Blancos still retain 50% of their economic rights due to strategic sell-on and buy-back clauses from previous transfers. The club now intends to capitalize on their rising market values rather than reintegrate them into the squad. Collectively, their sales could net Real Madrid up to €57.5 million:

Miguel Gutiérrez – Valued at €25M (Madrid holds 50% rights = €12.5M)

Take Kubo – Valued at €50M (50% rights = €25M)

Mario Gila – Valued at €40M (50% rights = €20M)

This move aligns with Alonso’s stated philosophy to “always want to improve” and be proactive in planning. During his official unveiling as Real Madrid head coach, he emphasized the importance of close communication with club executives to align on squad development and resource allocation.

“Our duty is to always want to improve. In any facet of the game, as well as the planning of the squad,” Alonso said.

 Strategic Sales for Future Reinforcements

The potential earnings from these sales come at a critical time as the club prepares for the FIFA Club World Cup, which remains Alonso’s short-term focus. However, sources suggest that Alonso and club president Florentino Pérez will sit down for reinforcement talks immediately after the tournament, using the proceeds from these transactions to bolster key positions in the squad.

“Xabi Alonso is aware that with that money he could reinforce some position in his squad,” a club insider noted.

Smart Business, Long-Term Vision

Real Madrid’s decision not to activate the buy-back clauses on Gutiérrez, Kubo, and Gila shows a measured, financially savvy approach. These players, while talented, are not central to Alonso’s tactical setup. By offloading them now at peak value, the club benefits without disrupting team chemistry or overloading the squad.

This calculated move reflects Real Madrid’s broader strategy: maximizing return on academy and former assets while focusing on precision signings for long-term success under Alonso’s leadership.

As the transfer window heats up, all eyes will be on how Real Madrid reinvests this windfall—and what it means for the start of Alonso’s managerial tenure at the Bernabéu.
