Rap star Lil Durk is fighting back against serious federal charges linking him to a murder-for-hire plottargeting rival rapper Quando Rondo, an ambush that left Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, dead.
In a motion filed Friday, Durk’s legal team argued that the case should be thrown out entirely due to a “fundamental factual error” made by prosecutors — one they say misled a grand jury.
Prosecutors claimed Durk taunted Quando Rondo in a song recorded after the August 2022 Los Angeles attack. But Durk’s attorneys insist that the song in question was actually recorded seven months before the shooting, making it impossible for it to reference the incident.
“This error goes to the heart of the government’s narrative,” Durk’s team wrote, emphasizing that the timeline doesn’t add up. They further challenged the legitimacy of the song version prosecutors cited in court, saying it was a YouTube remix with added TV news audio, not an official release from Durk.
Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested in Florida on October 24, 2024, the same day an indictment was unsealed charging five other men in connection with the plot. Additional conspiracy and weapons charges were added in a November superseding indictment. If convicted, Durk faces up to life in prison.
According to the feds, the plan was retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von, Durk’s close friend and protégé, who was shot during a brawl with Rondo’s crew in Atlanta. Prosecutors allege that Durk and his co-defendants — who include Kavon “Cuz” Grant, Deandre “DeDe” Wilson, Keith “Flacka” Jones, David “Browneyez” Lindsey, and Asa “Boogie” Houston — coordinated the hit from Chicago and L.A., using private jets, burner phones, and hotel bookings under names linked to Durk’s label, Only The Family.
Text messages allegedly show Durk warning an accomplice not to book anything in names associated with him: “Don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me.”
Despite these claims, Durk’s legal team says the government’s evidence is shaky and manipulated — especially the misrepresented lyrics. They’ve requested that grand jury transcripts be unsealed if the judge denies their motion to dismiss.
As the high-stakes case unfolds in Los Angeles federal court, the spotlight on Lil Durk only intensifies — with fans and critics watching closely to see whether this is a case of real-life beef gone deadly or a major misstep by the feds.
