Nick Frost has found himself at the center of heated backlash after being cast in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, prompting the actor to disable comments on his Instagram post announcing the news.
The 53-year-old British actor is set to take on the beloved role of Rubeus Hagrid—originally portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane—in the high-profile reboot of the wizarding world for television. Sharing the news on Instagram, Frost wrote:
“You’re a wizard, Harry!!! Thank you for trusting me with such a loyal, gentle and courageous half-giant like Rubeus Hagrid. Robbie, I promise I won’t let you down.”
However, the excitement was quickly overshadowed by controversy surrounding Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s well-documented stance on transgender rights. The backlash was swift, with fans flooding Frost’s post with criticism, calling out his decision to join a franchise so closely tied to Rowling’s polarizing views. In response, Frost disabled comments on the post—but that hasn’t stopped disappointed fans from venting their frustration on his other uploads.
