Keanu Reeves might be swapping bullets for bass strings this weekend, as punk duo Soft Play have extended a bold invitation for the Hollywood icon to join them on stage at Coachella.
Formerly known as Slaves, the British band—comprised of Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent—publicly reached out to Reeves via Instagram, asking him to perform bass on their track “John Wick”, which was inspired by the legendary assassin character he portrays.
Their message read:
“Keanu we f**** love you mate, we wrote a song about John Wick, from the perspective of John Wick. We’d love for you to hear it and it would be a dream come true if you would come and play bass on it with us at Coachella. Much love. Isaac (age 33) and Laurie (age 32) xx.”**
The song appears on their 2024 album Heavy Jelly, and the band is slated to perform on Sunday, April 20 in the Californian desert—leaving fans hopeful for a surprise appearance from the action star-turned-musician.
Reeves, 60, is no stranger to the music scene. He plays bass in the rock band Dogstar, which recently completed its Summer Vacation Tour across Europe and North America in support of their 2023 comeback album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.
Meanwhile, Reeves is staying busy in the film world as well. Lionsgate confirmed at CinemaCon that the actor will reprise his role as the deadly but beloved hitman in John Wick 5. The franchise is also expanding with an animated prequel, a standalone spinoff centered on Donnie Yen’s character Caine, and the upcoming film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, where Reeves will make a guest appearance ahead of his full return in the next main installment.
With John Wick: Chapter 4 earning over $440 million globally, expectations are sky-high for the next chapter. Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson shared,
“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world.”
As for Coachella, fans now have their eyes locked on Sunday’s performance, hoping the man behind John Wick will trade his suit and silencer for a bass guitar and punk-rock glory.
