I’m Los Angeles, April 16 (IANS) – Rap icon Snoop Dogg is returning to his gospel roots with a deeply personal new project titled Altar Call, set to drop April 27 under the legendary Death Row Records. The 21-track album is a tribute to his late mother, Beverly Tate, who passed away in 2021 — and is a spiritual follow-up to his 2018 gospel project Bible of Love.

In a heartfelt statement shared with Okayplayer, Snoop reflected on the inspiration behind the album:

“The spirit of my mother will forever live within me. This album is a reflection of what she has taught me – to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the Bible of Love.”

The cover art for Altar Call features a touching image of Beverly Tate, further cementing the album’s emotional and spiritual significance.

The album boasts a powerful lineup of guest features, including Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, Charlie Bereal, and October London. A special highlight is the debut of the Death Row Mass Choir, adding a rich, soulful gospel touch to the project.

Snoop also paid tribute to his mother in poetic form, writing:

“U taught me how to read and write / how to struggle and fight / and all the facts of life. Now you finally got ya wings, mama.”

While the rap legend is known for his laid-back West Coast style, he’s always made it clear that his faith is a foundational part of his journey:

“This is not a money-driven project, it’s a spirit-driven project,” Snoop said. “I’ve referred to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on most of my recordings, letting people know that I am a born-again Christian.”

The album’s lead single, “Mother I Miss You” featuring gospel icon John P. Kee, drops April 18, offering fans a first taste of what Snoop promises will be “a heartfelt testimony, a moment of reflection, faith, and community.”

Altar Call is shaping up to be more than music — it’s a soul-stirring celebration of love, legacy, and divine grace.
