Afrobeats sensation Rema is facing major backlash after arriving 30 minutes late to his own Coachella 2025 performance, leaving fans confused and disappointed. The Nigerian star was scheduled to perform on the Mojave stage from 6:40 PM to 7:25 PM PT, but didn’t appear until just 15 minutes before his time slot ended.
While his band and DJ appeared on time and attempted to keep the crowd entertained, it wasn’t long before frustration began to brew. After hyping up the audience with the promise that “Rema’s about to take the stage,” the wait continued, pushing fans’ patience to the limit.
Social media erupted with criticism:
• “The Rema set at Coachella is a disaster. 20 mins in and Rema is nowhere to be found. The DJ has been hyping the crowd while the band just stares at each other. It’s the DJ’s set at this point,” a user tweeted.
• Another fan posted: “Nahh Rema pulling up late while the DJ & guitarist look around wondering where he’s at is wild.”
Even when Rema eventually arrived, fans were unimpressed by the lack of stage creativity and energy. One disappointed attendee shared:
“Coachella being my first time seeing Rema perform… I thought he had a better artistic direction. Stage not that different, not even 3 dancers, and a basic ass outfit. I swear he has sung 3 lines live.”
Some fans speculated that something may have gone wrong behind the scenes:
“What just happened? Rema has been affected by something that happened backstage. This is not him. But you can tell he is trying,” someone wrote, offering a more empathetic take.
Adding to the letdown was the absence of Selena Gomez, who fans were hoping would join him for their chart-topping collaboration, “Calm Down.” The set ended without a guest appearance, and with just a handful of songs performed before the time ran out.
Rema has yet to publicly address the incident, but his Coachella debut, once highly anticipated, is now being widely labeled as a missed opportunity and one of the weekend’s biggest flops.
