Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has revealed a deeply personal rift with his father — and it’s all because of his tattoos.
Speaking candidly during a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the Peru hitmaker, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, shared that while his music career has brought him fame and success, his body art remains a major source of tension at home.
“One thing that I would do that can break my dad’s heart? I think I already did — my tattoos,”Fireboy said.
According to the 29-year-old star, his dad’s disapproval runs so deep that he goes out of his way to hide his tattoos with a jalabiya anytime his father visits.
“Whenever he comes to visit me, I’m always on jalabiya, fully covered. Because tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them.”
Interestingly, the singer noted that his dad has no issue with his piercings, but the tattoos? That’s the real sore spot.
“He will never forgive me for these things,” Fireboy admitted, adding that even if he hadn’t gone into music, he still would have gotten inked.
“It’s not even about being an artist for me. I’m just that kind of person. I see tattoos as art.”
For Fireboy, the ink is more than just rebellion — it’s a statement.
“Sometimes I want to be shirtless and still look like I’m dressed up. I want to wear a singlet and step into a place and still have presence. That’s what tattoos are to me.”
Despite the familial friction, Fireboy continues to live out his truth, proving that art — in all its forms — is central to who he is, whether through music or ink.
