I’m Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy is calling out the harsh realities of the local music scene — and he’s not sugarcoating it.
In a candid Instagram story, the ‘Last Last’ crooner revealed that 1 million streams in Nigeria only fetch about $300–$400, compared to the thousands of dollars earned in the US, UK, and Europe for the same numbers.
“Your song being number 1 on any streaming platform in Nigeria is not something to celebrate,” he wrote. “Aim higher or do other businesses on the side. I type with love.”
Burna didn’t stop there. He also warned up-and-coming artists not to fall for online hype and social media polls, saying that Twitter clout doesn’t translate to sold-out shows or international success.
“Naija social media fans won’t fill any stadium for you,” he added.
