In a candid chat on the ‘WithChude’ podcast hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actress, filmmaker, and Nigeria’s box office queen opened up about the grit, sweat, and resilience it takes to stay on top in the entertainment industry.
“A lot of people want to do what I’m doing,” Funke said. “But I keep telling them: for you to be successful, you need to work hard. Do the dirty work.”
Known for shattering box office records year after year, Funke made it clear that success isn’t handed out — it’s earned through sleepless nights, hands-on hustle, and sheer dedication. According to her, she doesn’t dwell on past achievements but stays focused on growth and excellence.
“I’m intentional with my work. I don’t break down even when things get tough. I don’t let personal problems slow me down,” she added.
Drama with Skit Maker Ijoba Lande
Despite her golden streak in Nollywood, Funke recently found herself in the middle of an online controversy. Skit maker Ijoba Lande claimed he was underpaid after working on her film set.
In a viral video, Lande alleged that he was paid just ₦90,000 after working for a month, despite not negotiating a fee because he felt honored to be noticed by a star like Funke.
“I thought it was my big break. I didn’t charge because I felt this was it,” he said. “But I’ve learned. Even if Michael Jackson comes, I’ll charge.”
Lande also described Funke as unapproachable on set, which sparked backlash. However, in a surprising twist, he later issued an apology, admitting he was actually paid ₦190,000, not ₦90,000.
