Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has expressed confidence that Kelechi Iheanacho will continue to find the back of the net after scoring his first goal for the club.
The Nigerian forward netted in Boro’s 3-1 victory over Oxford United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, securing the lead for the first time in the match with a 48th-minute strike.
Speaking about Iheanacho’s impact, Carrick told the club’s official website:
“He’s happy. We are trying to keep the smile off Neto’s face as much as anything! He was delighted too.
But Kel knows it. He has played at a high level, and goals make you feel a bit better, naturally.
I wasn’t concerned. I knew he would score, and hopefully, he has got more in him. I am sure he has. It was a massive goal for us.”
The 28-year-old striker joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla in January, and fans will be hoping this first goal marks the beginning of a strong run in front of goal.

Cardi B has taken to Twitter Spaces to publicly air serious allegations against her estranged husband, Offset, claiming that he has been harassing her since their split.
In an emotional outburst, the rapper accused Offset of:
• Harassing her with voicemails and messages aimed at lowering her self-esteem.
• Threatening self-harm in an attempt to win her back.
• Targeting her new partner by bothering him for months.
• Collaborating with bloggers to stir up drama about her personal life.
• Sharing explicit videos of them in an alleged act of revenge porn.
“He’s upset because I sent his girlfriend messages of him begging me, saying he was going to take away his life, saying he was going to take away my life.”
“He harasses me, leaves me voicemails, and tries to lower my self-esteem.”
Cardi also warned Offset’s current girlfriend, urging her to stay away from the house she purchased.
Offset has yet to respond to these allegations.
