A panel of judges has denied an appeal seeking to overturn the acquittal of Roger Nores and two hotel workers in connection to the tragic death of Liam Payne.
The One Direction singer passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His death was ruled as a result of polytrauma, with severe internal and external injuries.
Appeal to Overturn Exoneration Rejected
Following his death, five individuals were arrested and charged, including Nores and two hotel employees, Gilda Martin and Esteban Grassi. Earlier this year, the trio was exonerated of all charges, a decision that prosecutors attempted to overturn.
However, according to Rolling Stone, the panel of judges rejected the appeal, arguing that it “lacked necessary merit” and failed to present new evidence to challenge the original ruling. Instead, the appeal simply disagreed with the court’s evaluation of the evidence.
With this ruling, Nores, Martin, and Grassi remain cleared of all charges, but prosecutors are now pushing for the Supreme Court, Cámara de Casación, to review the case.
Two Remaining Suspects Face Trial
While three suspects have been acquitted, two individuals—Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz—remain behind bars. They are accused of supplying drugs to Payne, substances that were found in his toxicology report.
In November, Paiz admitted to meeting Payne twice before his death and using drugs with him but denied supplying narcotics or receiving payment. If convicted, both face four to 15 years in prison, and Paiz could also face a $4,900 fine.
What’s Next?
As the case heads to Argentina’s Supreme Court, the battle for justice in Liam Payne’s tragic passing is far from over. While some have been cleared, others await trial and sentencing in what remains one of the most shocking celebrity tragedies in recent memory.
