Diddy and Federal Prosecutors Clash Over Jury Selection in Criminal Trial

The legal battle between Sean “Diddy” Combs and federal prosecutors is heating up as both sides struggle to agree on the jury selection process for his upcoming criminal trial.

Diddy’s Legal Team Pushes for a Larger Jury Pool

According to new legal documents obtained by TMZ, Diddy’s defense team is pushing for a massive pool of 600 jurors and wants jury selection to begin on May 5.

However, prosecutors are proposing an earlier start date—April 21—arguing that there’s no need for additional delays.

Diddy’s attorneys are balking at the earlier date, insisting they need more time to prepare a strong defense.

Key Disputes in Jury Selection

Diddy’s camp is requesting that potential jurors fill out written questionnaires, which would allow both sides to review responses before selecting the final 12 jurors.

Federal prosecutors, however, oppose this, arguing that any questionnaire should only cover scheduling conflicts—not any personal opinions or biases that could influence the trial.

In addition, Diddy’s team wants a sequestered jury selection process, where jurors are questioned individually outside the presence of others, likely to avoid influences or media exposure.

Trial Start Date Battle

Beyond jury selection, the two sides are also clashing over the trial’s start date:

• Prosecutors want opening statements to begin on May 5—the same day they hope the jury is finalized.

• Diddy’s team, however, insists that jury selection should start on May 5, and the trial should only begin once the jury is fully seated.

Diddy’s Legal Team Accuses CNN of Altering Cassie Assault Video

Thursday’s court filings also revealed another major accusation from Diddy’s lawyers—they claim CNN altered the 2016 surveillance footage showing him allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.

Diddy’s legal team is accusing the network of destroying the only known original copy of the shocking video, which surfaced in May 2024 and allegedly shows him grabbing, shoving, dragging, and kicking Cassie in a California hotel.

Diddy Expected to Plead Not Guilty

Diddy is scheduled to appear in court this Friday, where he is expected to plead not guilty to new allegations brought against him in a superseding indictment.

What’s Next?

With jury selection, evidence disputes, and new allegations all colliding, Diddy’s trial is shaping up to be one of the biggest celebrity legal battles of the year.

Will his defense team succeed in delaying the trial and expanding the jury pool? Or will prosecutors push forward with their aggressive timeline?

Stay tuned for the latest updates.
