Grammy-winning rapper Doechii has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, marking a major milestone in her skyrocketing career. The announcement was made on Monday, March 10, and she will be officially honored at Billboard’s Women in Music event later this month.
Doechii’s Rapid Rise
Doechii, a fresh force in rap, has taken the industry by storm with viral hits like “No Scrubs” and “Denial is a River,” the latter of which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her 2024 album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, earned her a Grammy for Best Rap Album, making her only the third woman in history to win that category. She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance at the awards.
At the 2024 Grammys, Doechii made her debut performance, electrifying the stage with “Denial is a River” and “Catfish.”
A Billboard Favorite
Doechii’s impact on the charts is undeniable. She has already landed five songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including major collaborations like “Balloon” (with Tyler, the Creator) and “ExtraL” (with Jennie).
Billboard previously recognized her in 2023 as their Music Rising Star, and now she joins the ranks of legends like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, who were also Rising Star winners before receiving Woman of the Year.
Billboard’s Editor-in-Chief Hannah Karp praised Doechii’s “ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style, and spirit.”
Billboard’s 2025 Women in Music Event
Alongside Doechii’s honor, other major awards will be presented at the Billboard Women in Music event, including:
• Jennie – Songwriter of the Year
• Erykah Badu – Breakthrough Award
• Meghan Trainor – Hitmaker Award
The event will also feature performances from Ángela Aguilar, aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long, and Tyla.
Past recipients of Billboard’s Woman of the Year honor include SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
