Renowned Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun (AY Comedian), has opened up about the damaging effects of social media negativity on the lives of celebrities, emphasizing its impact on their mental health, livelihood, and families.

In a heartfelt statement, AY highlighted how the digital age has turned social media into a double-edged sword, where negative comments and trends can quickly escalate into public scrutiny.

“The rapid spread of negative trends and comments has easily shifted from one celebrity to another, often snowballing into a wave of public scrutiny. It’s astonishing how quickly opinions can form about the individuals we may know little or nothing about,” he said.

He reminded the public that behind every post, there is a real person facing struggles, and these online attacks don’t just affect celebrities but also their families and sources of income.

Despite the negativity, AY praised the resilience of some entertainers, saying that consistency and authenticity have been their greatest weapons.

“Some of us have managed to stand strong and remain consistent with our brands. Resilience has become our shield, and authenticity, our armour. We consistently strive to rise above the noise, focusing on our craft and the positivity we can bring to our audiences,” he stated.

Expressing gratitude to fans who have stood by him and other celebrities, AY acknowledged the power of kindness and understanding in countering online negativity.

“Your support means the world to us and reinforces the belief that kindness and understanding will always triumph over negativity,” he concluded.
