Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, has sparked conversations online after claiming that stream farming is rampant in the Nigerian music industry.
The “Declan Rice” crooner took to his X page to express his concerns, stating that many artists manipulate their streaming numbers, but the numbers do not translate into bookings, ticket sales, or real fanbase engagement.
He wrote:
“There’s a high level of stream farming going on in the Nigerian music industry. Farming is crazy cause it’s not translating into shows. It’s not translating into bookings and ticket sales home and abroad. So, what’s the point?”
What is Stream Farming?
Stream farming is a controversial method where artificial bots or paid services are used to inflate streaming numbers on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube — making songs appear more popular than they actually are.
Blaqbonez & Don Jazzy Weigh In
Odumodublvck isn’t the first to call out stream manipulation. Fellow rapper Blaqbonez has consistently accused artists of using stream farms to cheat their way to the top of charts, especially on Apple Music Nigeria.
However, Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy debunked the claims in a 2023 interview, stating that there was no such thing as stream farming in the Nigerian music industry.
Despite Don Jazzy’s stance, many insiders and fans believe the practice is alive and well.
Fans React
The rapper’s allegations have stirred reactions online:
@Gidi_music: “We know the artists we stream but nobody calls for their shows.”
@Yung_king_: “No be every Apple Music No.1 get real fans… Odumodu dey talk truth.”
@Blaq_Bruno: “If streaming farms no dey, how Davido song dey top chart wey nobody sabi am?”
Whether stream farming truly exists or not, Odumodublvck’s bold claims have reignited the authenticity conversation in the Nigerian music scene.
Do you think stream farming is real or just another industry myth?
