Veteran Nollywood couple Norbert Young and Gloria Young have opened up about their seven-year battle with childlessness, revealing the emotional toll it took on their marriage.
In a recent interview on Love Notes with Tope, Gloria recounted the pressure she faced from family and society, while Norbert maintained that he never saw the delay as a challenge.
Norbert, who remained supportive throughout the ordeal, shared how his sister waited 16 years for a child before finally giving birth — a situation that helped him stay calm.
“It Wasn’t a Challenge for Me” – Norbert Young
The actor explained that he never pressured his wife, choosing instead to offer comfort and reassurance.
“I didn’t see it as a challenge because I always told her, ‘What are you worried about? Be calming down,’” he said.
He praised his sister’s husband for standing by her during her 16-year wait, adding,
“That child today is a medical doctor… So what’s the big deal? It didn’t threaten our union at all.”
Gloria’s Struggle with Societal Pressure
While Norbert remained calm, Gloria admitted she was the one who felt the weight of societal expectations.
She recalled how family members would silently judge her at gatherings, staring at her stomach without uttering a word.
“I had that kind of auntie who would look at me, then at my stomach, silently asking, ‘How far na?’” she said.
Despite the emotional turmoil, the couple stood by each other, and their love story remains an inspiration.
The duo tied the knot in April 2002, and their union is now blessed with a daughter.
Their story serves as a reminder that love, patience, and unwavering support are the foundations of a strong marriage.
