Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has downplayed the heated exchange between Victor Bonifaceand Emiliano Buendía during their 4-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The drama unfolded in stoppage time when both players got in each other’s way while trying to take a shot, sparking a brief confrontation that had to be broken up by teammates. Boniface was visibly upset, lashing out at Buendía before being calmed down by Jeremie Frimpong and Alonso.
Speaking after the match, Alonso addressed the incident, saying:
“I spoke with Boni. I don’t have all the details, but Boni wanted to shoot. It can happen. We don’t want to make something big out of something so small. We’re staying calm. On Monday, we’ll keep going again.”
Both Boniface and Buendía came on as substitutes, with all the goals already scored before their introduction.
Despite the heated moment, Alonso made it clear that the issue is not a big deal as Leverkusen continues their impressive run this season.
