The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has launched a full-scale investigation into the tragic death of former Flying Eagles star, Abubakar Lawal, whose sudden demise has left many questions unanswered.
Lawal, who played for Ugandan club Vipers SC, reportedly passed away on Monday morning under unclear circumstances. Initial reports claimed he was involved in a motorbike accident, while others suggested he died in a car crash.
However, the Ugandan Police later revealed that the 28-year-old fell from the third floor of a hotel at the Voicemail Shopping Mall in Bwebajja, where he had gone to visit his friend, a Tanzanian woman named Naima Omary.
In a statement, NFF Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi confirmed that the federation is working closely with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to uncover the truth.
“We are not relenting in the search for truth. The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its determination to uncover what really happened, and we have also reached out to FUFA to assist us,” Sanusi said.
Lawal was part of the Flying Eagles squad that represented Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain clouded in mystery, with fans and loved ones demanding justice as investigations continue.
