Snoop Dogg is making headlines once again — this time for ditching Spotify after claiming he earned only $45,000 from 1 billion streams on the platform.
The rap legend recently announced his partnership with Tune.FM, a Web3 music platform that promises better payouts for artists through blockchain technology.
Spotify Responds to Snoop Dogg’s Claims
After Snoop aired his frustration, Spotify quickly fired back, saying his claims were far from the truth.
A Spotify spokesperson told TMZ Hip Hop:
“A billion streams on Spotify generates millions of dollars to rights holders. It’s unfortunate to hear that Spotify’s payments didn’t make it through to Snoop.”
They even threw a little shade, suggesting Snoop might not have been seeing his full earnings because of label deals before he bought back Death Row Records.
Snoop’s New Deal with Tune.FM
Now, Snoop is switching lanes with Tune.FM, a decentralized music streaming service that promises to pay artists 90% of streaming revenue — a massive jump from what traditional platforms offer.
To mark the announcement, the West Coast icon dropped a new exclusive track on the platform — skipping Spotify entirely.
Fans React to Snoop’s Spotify Shade
Social media has been buzzing with fans backing Snoop for standing up for artist rights. Many have applauded him for supporting platforms that put artists first.
Will More Artists Follow Snoop’s Lead?
With Snoop making the switch, it’s only a matter of time before more musicians explore Web3 music platforms as the future of streaming.
One thing’s for sure — the D-O-Double-G isn’t letting anyone mess with his money or music anymore!
