Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, Anabela Rungo (46), will remain in custody at Pollsmoor Prison until Wednesday, February 26, when the Cape Town High Court hears her bail application.
Rungo, a Mozambican national, was denied bail on Friday, February 22, after it was discovered that she fraudulently obtained South African citizenship.
Legal Troubles & Arrest
Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that both the state and defense will present arguments in the next hearing.
Rungo was arrested at her Cape Town hideout, where she was staying with Chidimma’s minor son, after Home Affairs revoked her South African documentation in September 2024.
How It Started
Her legal troubles began when her daughter, Chidimma Adetshina, was found ineligible to participate in Miss South Africa due to citizenship concerns. Investigations revealed that Adetshina’s mother was Mozambican, and her father Nigerian.
After withdrawing from Miss SA, Adetshina competed in Miss Universe Nigeria, winning the crown and later representing Nigeria at Miss Universe in Mexico, where she finished as first runner-up.
With Rungo now facing deportation and legal battles, her fate remains uncertain pending the February 26 hearing.
