Former James Bond star Daniel Craig has addressed the future of the 007 franchise following the announcement that Amazon MGM Studios will take full creative control of the next era of Bond films.
A New Era for James Bond
For decades, the Bond franchise was managed by Eon Productions, led by long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli—the successors of Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, who helped shape 007’s cinematic legacy. However, a major shake-up has been confirmed, with Amazon MGM Studios now steering the franchise’s creative direction.
Wilson, 81, announced his retirement, while Broccoli, 63, has chosen to step away to pursue other projects. This shift follows Amazon’s 2022 acquisition of MGM, giving the tech giant significant control over Bond’s future.
In a statement, Wilson reflected on his long tenure:
“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”
Broccoli also shared her thoughts:
“My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy handed to Michael and me by our father. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”

Craig, who played Bond from Casino Royale (2006) to No Time to Die (2021), acknowledged the producers’ impact on the franchise.
“My respect, admiration, and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished,” Craig told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I wish Michael a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever ventures Barbara goes on to do, I know they will be spectacular—and I hope I can be part of them.”
Who Will Be the Next James Bond?
Amazon’s takeover has reignited speculation about who will replace Craig as Bond. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, has invited fans to share their opinions, leading to an influx of suggestions online.
Among the frontrunners for the role are:
• Aaron Taylor-Johnson
• Henry Cavill
• James McAvoy
• Idris Elba
Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, reassured fans about Bond’s legacy:
“Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment. We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007.”
What’s Next for the Franchise?
Although no official details have been revealed about the next Bond film, Amazon’s influence could bring a fresh approach. There is speculation about possible spin-offs, TV series, or even a multi-film universe, though Broccoli has previously insisted that Bond remains a theatrical experience.
For now, fans eagerly await who will be the next James Bond—and how Amazon’s involvement will shape the future of cinema’s most famous spy.
