Renowned Nigerian music video director, Clarence Peters, has finally spoken out about his complicated relationship with his father, the legendary juju musician Shina Peters.

In a candid conversation on the WithChude podcast, Clarence reflected on the mistakes of his father, particularly regarding his treatment of women, and how it shaped his own views on relationships.

Shina Peters “Screwed Up” – Clarence Speaks on Mother’s Struggles

Clarence, 41, revealed that his mother, veteran actress Clarion Chukwura, was blackballed by Shina Peters’ colleagues, leaving her to face significant hardships.

“My dad screwed up. Using the word ‘screwed up’ is me putting it lightly,” he admitted.

He expressed deep regret over how his mother was treated, revealing that she was already dealing with trauma from a young age. According to Clarence, the impact of these experiences was so profound that it even influenced the storytelling in his work.

“In making ‘Inside Life’, I started to discover some of the things I didn’t know. My mum went through the script and started crying because she had lived through the same pain.”

“I Don’t Want to Be Like My Father” – Clarence on His Own Mistakes

Clarence acknowledged that, despite being raised by his mother, one of his greatest fears was becoming like his father in how he treated women. However, he admitted that he has made some of the same mistakes.

“As much as I was raised by my mother, my biggest fear was not to be like my father to the opposite sex. But I have been a version of that, so I am not a saint. I cannot judge him.”

“All He Can Do Now Is Pray for Forgiveness”

Clarence also spoke about how Shina Peters, now 66, has reached a point in his life where he is reflecting on his past choices.

“He has been with women, driven amazing cars, stayed in the best houses and hotels, and had money. But now, as he approaches 70, all he can do is pray to God for forgiveness.”

Despite their strained history, Clarence emphasized that he does not hold resentment toward his father, as he now understands the complexities of life and human mistakes.

A Powerful Reflection on Legacy and Redemption

Clarence Peters’ heartfelt revelations offer a raw and honest look into the complicated realities of family, fame, and personal growth. His story is a reminder that, while mistakes of the past cannot be undone, they can serve as lessons for the future.
