Back in November 2024, Washington casually dropped that Coogler was working on a role for him in Black Panther 3. Naturally, the internet went into a frenzy. Who wouldn’t want to see the Oscar-winning actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)? However, in a recent interview, Moore clarified that it’s “too early” to confirm Washington’s involvement, adding that Coogler is still focused on finishing his current film, Sinners.
“Honestly, we haven’t had any substantive creative conversations with Ryan yet,” Moore explained. “If this manifests, which we’re gonna try, I think it will probably be somebody from MCU canon. Who that is? Well, it’s still early days.”
If Denzel Wants In, Marvel Will Make It Happen
While Moore was careful not to confirm anything, he didn’t shut the door on Washington’s potential role either. In fact, he made it clear that Marvel would jump at the chance to bring him on board.
“Obviously, if an actor of the caliber of Denzel Washington wants in, we’re gonna figure out a way to make that happen,” Moore added.
Washington himself later admitted that he might have spoken too soon, revealing that he even apologized to Coogler for mentioning Black Panther 3 in public. “I called him and apologized for talking about the movie,” he shared in December 2024.
What Role Could Denzel Play in Black Panther 3?
While Marvel is staying tight-lipped, fans are already speculating on potential roles for Washington. Could he play a powerful Wakandan elder? A villain? Or even a major MCU character making his debut? Only time will tell.
