Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series may not return as soon as fans hoped. While the streamer renewed the show for two additional seasons just a month after its February 2024 premiere, signs now point to a 2026 release date for Season 2.
No 2025 Release in Netflix’s Lineup
Netflix recently unveiled its 2025 slate, featuring major titles like Wednesday Season 2, Stranger Things Season 5, Squid Game Season 3, and Ginny & Georgia Season 3. However, Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 was noticeably absent from the list. Given its status as one of Netflix’s biggest series, this omission strongly suggests the show won’t be ready until 2026.
Post-Production Challenges Behind the Delay
The delay isn’t surprising, as the show’s extensive visual effects and action-heavy sequences demand significant post-production time. Similar to One Piece Season 2—which is also rumored to be delayed to 2026—Avatar requires complex CGI, sound design, and editing to bring its world to life.

The main cast, including Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), and Elizabeth Yu (Azula), will return alongside new cast members like Chin Han (Long Feng), Justin Chien (King Kuei), and Momona Tamada (Ty Lee).
