Reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United winger Antony is nearing a move to Real Betis on a dry loan until the end of the season, with no purchase option included in the deal.

Loan Deal in Final Stages

Antony has reportedly agreed to the terms, and discussions between the clubs are ongoing to finalize the transfer. Real Betis, currently 11th in La Liga, have been in the market for a winger this January, and Antony appears to be their solution.

United’s Decision to Loan Antony

Signed for €100 million from Ajax in 2022, Antony has struggled to justify his price tag at Manchester United. Despite being a favorite of former manager Erik ten Hag, the Brazilian winger’s performances have been underwhelming.

Initially, United sought to offload Antony permanently with a €50 million asking price, but the lack of interest led them to pursue a loan move. The club hopes Antony can rebuild his confidence and market value during his time at Betis, potentially paving the way for a permanent transfer in the summer of 2025.

Antony’s Decline at Old Trafford

In his debut Premier League season, Antony scored just four goals and provided two assists, a disappointing return for a player of his stature. His second season has been even worse, with just one goal and one assist in all competitions.

Following Ten Hag’s departure, Antony struggled to adapt to the new manager’s system, receiving limited playing time. This season, he has started no Premier League or Europa League matches, logging only 83 league minutes off the bench and a total of 400 minutes across 14 appearances in all competitions.

A Chance to Rebuild at Betis

Antony’s move to Betis offers him a fresh start in Spain and a chance to rediscover the form that once made him a €100 million talent. For Manchester United, the loan is an opportunity to potentially recoup some of their investment in the future.

Betis will hope the Brazilian can add creativity and flair to their attack as they aim to climb the La Liga table. For Antony, this loan spell could be the turning point in reviving a career that has thus far failed to live up to expectations.
