Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has solidified her status as one of the industry’s top creatives, earning the title of the second highest-grossing Nollywood writer in 2024. Alongside collaborators Collins Okoh and Akinlabi Ishola, Akindele achieved this feat with the blockbuster film Everybody Loves Jennifer, which generated a staggering ₦1.125 billion at the box office.
The rankings, revealed by FilmOne on their official Instagram page, highlighted the remarkable performances of Nollywood writers in 2024.
Top Nollywood Writers of 2024:
1. Stephen Oluboyo – The highest-grossing writer of the year, Oluboyo dominated with Everybody Loves Jennifer, Alakada Bad and Boujee, and Aburo, raking in ₦1.38 billion in total.
2. Funke Akindele, Collins Okoh, and Akinlabi Ishola – Their work on Everybody Loves Jennifer earned them the second spot with ₦1.125 billion.
3. Anthony Joseph – With hits like Queen Lateefah, The Waiter, and Alakada Bad and Boujee, Joseph secured ₦780 million in revenue.
4. Jack’ Enneth Opukeme – Films such as Farmer’s Bride and All’s Fair in Lovegarnered ₦299 million, landing him in fourth place.
5. Stephen Okonkwo – His film Ajosepo grossed ₦257 million at the box office.
6. Adebayo Tijani and Ola Olaoye – Their movie Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju earned ₦253 million.
7. Oluyombo Oluwagbemiga and Toyin Abraham – With Alakada Bad and Boujeegenerating ₦229 million, they claimed the seventh spot.
8. Odunlade Adekola and Akorede Ibrahim – Their film Lakatabu brought in ₦202 million.
9. Ayo Makun (AY) – The Waiter earned ₦185 million, securing AY the ninth position.
10. Tunde Babalola – His historical drama Funmilayo Ransom Kuti grossed ₦157 million.
This list underscores Nollywood’s growing influence and the exceptional storytelling prowess of its writers, who continue to set new benchmarks in the African film industry.
