The Rookie season 7 is set to pick up right where season 6 left off, with high-stakes drama and shocking revelations that promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Showrunner Alexi Hawley has teased a season full of suspense, with the first half focusing heavily on the return of Bailey’s dangerous ex-husband, Jason, who poses a major existential threat to her and her family.
In an exclusive interview with TVLine, Alexi revealed, “Jason will ultimately pose the biggest threat in the first half of the season… But we’ll also lean into some of the trauma of Bailey’s relationship with Jason that maybe she hasn’t processed yet.” The trauma of their past abusive relationship will bubble to the surface as Bailey fears Jason’s return, adding layers of tension to the season.
Season 7 will pick up just weeks after the dramatic finale of season 6, with Nolan recovering from a gunshot wound and feeling pressured to get back to work despite his injuries. But with Jason and other threats on the loose, the team faces an uphill battle to protect their loved ones. “We have to catch this guy before he comes for my wife and myself,” Nolan says, but things take an unexpected turn when their intel turns out to be wrong.
Steve Kazee returns as Jason, continuing his role as one of the show’s most notorious villains, while Jenna Dewan, who plays Bailey, will make her first appearance in episode 3 following her real-life pregnancy. Fans can look forward to her character’s evolving storyline as she faces these new challenges.
Additionally, The Rookie will introduce two new rookies played by Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher, breathing fresh energy into the show. “We’re introducing two new rookies… our front row in roll call will now be full for the first time since season 3,” Hawley shared.
