After an intense and highly publicized eight-year divorce battle, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally reached a settlement.
Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, shared with Page Six: “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
The couple’s love story began on the set of the 2005 action movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston, who divorced him that same year, while Jolie was already a mother to Maddox, adopted from Cambodia in 2002.
Over the years, their family grew as Pitt joined Jolie in adopting daughter Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005, and son Pax from Vietnam in 2007. The couple also welcomed biological children Shiloh in 2006, followed by twins Knox and Vivienne in 2008.
In 2014, they tied the knot at their French estate, Château Miraval, where they also launched Miraval Wines. But just two years later, Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Their separation took a darker turn in 2022 when details of a 2016 private plane incident surfaced. Pitt was accused of violent behavior during the flight, allegations he has consistently denied. While the FBI and DCFS cleared him of any wrongdoing, the incident became a pivotal point in their legal battle.
Since their divorce filing, the former power couple faced off over child custody, with a judge initially awarding Pitt joint custody in 2021, only for the decision to be overturned later. Financial disputes over their shared assets, including Miraval Wines, added fuel to the fire. Jolie’s sale of her 50% stake in the winery to the Stoli Group led to Pitt filing a lawsuit, accusing her of breaching their agreement. Jolie countersued, further escalating tensions.
