Actress Mercy Aigbe has expressed frustration over reports that some cinemas are allegedly discouraging moviegoers from watching her latest film, ThinLine. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, the 46-year-old shared a fan’s experience, which revealed troubling patterns at two different cinema locations.
The fan recounted attempts to see ThinLine at Festival Mall and Maryland Mall but was advised against it by cinema staff, citing issues like a “bad screen” and a faulty air conditioner. Instead, they recommended another movie, The Waiter, sparking outrage among Mercy’s supporters.
“Good day Ma’am,” the fan wrote. “I went to watch ThinLine at Festival Mall, but the ticket attendant advised me not to, claiming their screen was bad. I drove to Maryland Mall, and they told me the AC wasn’t working in the hall showing ThinLine and suggested I watch The Waiter. I went home angry and irritated.”
Actor Jamiu Azeez, who attended a meet-and-greet for ThinLine at Maryland Mall, corroborated the claims. He revealed that cinema staff openly told patrons about the air conditioning issues, discouraging many from buying tickets. Jamiu shared, “I had to start begging people to please support the movie despite the challenges.”
Mercy, a mother of two and one of Nollywood’s leading actresses, poured out her frustrations, writing, “Lori THINLINE, Baba gba ope wa, Baba gba iyin wa! 🙏 My DMs are flooded with similar complaints. As an investor, this is disheartening, but I’m holding on to the positive reviews from those who’ve watched it. Regardless, we move!”
The actress also posted glowing reviews from fans who praised the movie’s gripping storyline and outstanding performances. She assured her followers that the issues with the cinemas would be addressed swiftly.
Released on December 13, ThinLine boasts an impressive cast, including Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Nkechi Blessing, Adeniyi Johnson, Yvonne Jegede, and Mercy Aigbe herself.
