Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has addressed the controversy surrounding the arrest of Adura Aloba, the younger brother of the late singer Mohbad. Responding to accusations from Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Olumiyi, Fabiyi firmly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the arrest was lawful and followed due process.
The Arrest Drama Unfolds
On Wednesday, Adura was taken into custody outside the Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos. His mother had accused Fabiyi of orchestrating the arrest, labeling it an “abduction.” In a tearful social media appeal, she pleaded for Nigerians to help secure her son’s release, insisting on his innocence.
However, Fabiyi dismissed these claims as “baseless and defamatory.” According to the actor, the arrest was part of a homicide investigation initiated by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at Zone 2 Police Command.
Why Was Adura Arrested?
Fabiyi explained that Adura, along with Damola Ayinde Habeeb and Damilare Koleosho, was named a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. Despite being served multiple police invitations, Fabiyi alleged that Adura repeatedly ignored the requests.
“The Police approached the court, obtained a warrant of arrest, and executed it professionally,” Fabiyi stated. “Adura remained indifferent and used the court premises as a shield for hours before surrendering.”
He also clarified that Adura’s mother and lawyer were present during the arrest and were allowed to follow the police vehicle to the station.
Fabiyi Stands Firm
The actor maintained that the arrest was not a personal vendetta, but a lawful action to uphold justice. He also hinted at taking legal action against Mohbad’s mother for spreading false accusations.
“My legal team will be pursuing the necessary legal steps to address these defamatory remarks,” Fabiyi affirmed.
The Unending Mohbad Saga
Since Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, his family has been embroiled in numerous controversies. From disputes over his son Liam’s paternity to disagreements over his estate and final resting place, the drama has played out publicly.
Authorities initially detained individuals like Naira Marley and Sam Larry on charges of bullying and harassment. However, the court found no direct evidence linking them to Mohbad’s death. Instead, the Lagos State DPP charged the nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and her associate, Ayobami Sadiq, with reckless and negligent acts.
