Wizkid has once again proven that talent, consistency, and global appeal pay off — literally. The Nigerian music icon has officially become the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams on Spotify, a record-breaking feat that cements his place among the world’s most streamed musicians.
According to global music analytics platform ChartMasters, Wizkid earns around $1 million (approximately ₦1.5 billion) every month from Spotify alone — and that’s just one platform.
At the heart of his massive streaming success is the global smash hit “One Dance”, his 2016 collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which has pulled in a jaw-dropping 3.7 billion streams on Spotify. The track remains not only the most streamed song in Wizkid’s catalog but also one of the top 10 most streamed songs in Spotify history.
“One Dance” also holds a prestigious Guinness World Record for being the first song ever to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
As a solo artist, Wizkid continues to dominate with hits like “Essence” featuring Tems, which has already crossed 303 million streams. The track, often referred to as the “song of the summer” in the U.S. back in 2021, marked a turning point in Afrobeats’ global explosion.
But Spotify isn’t the only stream of income for the Starboy. He also earns handsomely from other platforms like Apple Music, YouTube, and various endorsement and licensing deals.
From Ojuelegba to the world, Wizkid’s journey is the definition of Afrobeats royalty — and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
