Michelle Obama’s absence from President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral on January 9 sparked curiosity, especially since her husband, former President Barack Obama, attended alongside other former U.S. presidents.
Journalist Jeff Zeleny shed light on the matter during CNN’s coverage, revealing that the former First Lady remained in Hawaii due to “scheduling conflicts,” according to her advisors.
Despite her physical absence, the Obamas expressed heartfelt condolences when President Carter passed, stating:
“President Carter taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from this remarkable man.”
While Michelle Obama wasn’t present at the funeral, her tribute and admiration for President Carter’s legacy were deeply felt.
