Walker Scobell will not be attending prom. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians star made the announcement on social media after revealing that fans have been sending death threats to teenage girls simply for living near him.
The 17-year-old actor did not hold back in his frustration, calling out the toxic behavior in a direct and unfiltered statement.
The Walker Scobell prom controversy began when fans started identifying and targeting young women in his vicinity. According to Scobell, these girls had no connection to him other than their geographic proximity. That did not stop online sleuths from sending violent messages.
“Please stop sending death threats to EVERY teenage girl who could remotely be associated with me based on their proximity to where I live,” he wrote.
He emphasized that the harassment is unfair not only to the girls but also to their families who have to witness the abuse.
Beyond skipping prom, Scobell used the moment to address a larger issue within fan culture. He asked his followers to stop sending death threats entirely, regardless of the target.
“It’s not fair to them or to their families,” he continued. “Maybe also just stop sending death threats in general. That’s just not cool. Kinda weird I have to say this.”
The actor’s frustration was palpable. The fact that he felt compelled to make the statement at all, he suggested, was absurd.
This incident is the latest in a long pattern of obsessive fan behavior targeting the personal lives of young stars. Walker Scobell rose to fame through his role in The Adam Project alongside Ryan Reynolds before landing the coveted lead role of Percy Jackson in the Disney+ series.
As his profile has grown, so has the intensity of his online fandom. The death threats directed at innocent girls mark a dangerous escalation that goes far beyond typical stan culture.
Scobell’s solution was straightforward. He is removing himself from the equation entirely by not attending prom. But his larger point remains. The threats should not exist in the first place.
For now, the young actor is hoping his words reach the right people. Whether they will listen is another question entirely.
