The sports world heard a familiar echo on Monday night. Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion, announced his return to competitive golf with a simple, two-word statement borrowed from another icon: “I’m back.”

Woods, who has been sidelined since October 2024 following disc replacement surgery, made the announcement through his Jupiter Links Golf Club social media account shortly after his team dropped the first match of the best-of-three TGL Finals series. The declaration ended a 13-month hiatus from competitive golf and set the stage for his return at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Woods stepped onto the tee for Tuesday night’s Match 2, replacing Kevin Kisner in the Jupiter Links lineup alongside Max Homa and Tom Kim.  His last competitive appearance had come at the 2024 Open Championship, making the moment a significant one for the 50-year-old legend.

Despite admitting he would be “rusty,” Woods delivered flashes of his vintage form, most notably with his signature stinger shot on Hole 6.  Jupiter Links jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with Woods contributing key shots on the second and fourth holes.

But Los Angeles Golf Club, featuring Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sahith Theegala, answered with a staggering 9-0 run over five holes.  The comeback culminated in a 9-2 victory for LAGC, clinching the SoFi Cup and ending Jupiter Links’ championship hopes in just 10 holes.

Following the loss, Woods addressed the question on every golf fan’s mind: Will he play in the Masters? Augusta National awaits starting April 9, just over two weeks away.

Woods was noncommittal but left the door open. “I’ve been trying,” he said. “Just this body is, it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying.”  He added that his recovery from disc replacement surgery has been slow, with good days and bad days.

Regardless of his decision, Woods confirmed he will be at Augusta for the Champions Dinner and to oversee his new nine-hole design at the Augusta municipal course.

For now, Tiger is back. The question is: for how long?
