Before a single ticket has been sold, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is already making history. The first trailer for Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the web-slinger pulled in a staggering 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours, according to market research firm WaveMetrix. That number makes it officially the most-watched trailer of all time, not just for a movie, but for any video launch in entertainment history, blowing past previous record-holders “Deadpool & Wolverine” and even the massively anticipated “Grand Theft Auto VI”.

The numbers tell a story of unprecedented hype. The “Brand New Day” trailer surpassed the 24-hour benchmark set by “Deadpool & Wolverine” in just eight hours, racking up 373 million views while audiences were still waking up. For context, the previous “Spider-Man: No Way Home” trailer, which set records of its own in 2021, generated 355.5 million views in its first day, a film that went on to earn $1.9 billion globally. The trailer even outperformed the 475 million-view debut of “Grand Theft Auto VI,” which had been billed as the biggest video launch of all time upon its 2025 release.

The record-shattering trailer offers the first look at Peter Parker’s life four years after the world-shattering events of “No Way Home” . Now an adult living entirely alone, Parker has voluntarily erased himself from the memories of everyone he loves . The trailer shows him watching old videos of MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) on his phone, people who no longer know his name. The official synopsis teases that as the demands on him intensify as a full-time Spider-Man, “the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced”.

Holland leads a cast that brings back familiar faces while introducing new ones. Zendaya returns as MJ, Jacob Batalon is back as Ned Leeds, and Mark Ruffalo joins the franchise as Bruce Banner, though even he doesn’t remember Peter. Jon Bernthal makes his MCU debut as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, facing off against Spider-Man in a tense confrontation shown in the trailer. Michael Mando reprises his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, while “Stranger Things” star Sadie Sink joins in an undisclosed but heavily anticipated role . Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin Jones III round out the expanding universe.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” for Marvel, takes the helm for this fourth installment . The script comes from franchise mainstays Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have written every Holland-led Spider-Man film . Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal produce, ensuring the Marvel machine runs smoothly behind the scenes . Filming took place throughout 2025, including a brief pause when Holland sustained a mild concussion during a stunt in Scotland, though he recovered fully.

With a July 31 release date locked in, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is positioned as the summer’s biggest blockbuster. The film arrives just two weeks after Holland and Zendaya’s other major project, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” creating a rare moment where the couple dominates back-to-back box office weekends. For now, the record-breaking trailer has done its job: the world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but audiences haven’t forgotten Spider-Man.
