The wall-crawler is back and lonelier than ever. Tom Holland returned to New York City early Wednesday morning, live from the top of the Empire State Building as the sun rose, to introduce the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The two-and-a-half-minute glimpse reveals a Peter Parker who has spent four years completely alone, erased from the memories of everyone he loved.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton of Shang-Chi fame, this fourth standalone Spider-Man film marks the first in Holland’s run not helmed by Jon Watts. The trailer confirms Zendaya’s MJ, Jacob Batalon’s Ned, and Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May, seen only at her grave, but the biggest surprises arrive in the form of two familiar Marvel faces stepping into Peter’s world.
Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle brings his skull-emblazoned vest and unmistakable grit to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Punisher appears in multiple shots, including a tense standoff that suggests a complicated relationship with the friendly neighborhood hero.
Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, seemingly teaching at a university when Peter seeks answers about a terrifying physical change. Banner doesn’t recognize the young man standing before him, the spell erased everyone’s memory, but delivers a warning: Peter’s DNA is mutating, and the process could be dangerous.
The trailer hints at something unprecedented for this iteration of the character. A voiceover explains that spiders have three life cycles, and between them, they’re vulnerable . Peter appears trapped in a cocoon-like formation, suggesting a biological evolution that could grant him organic webbing for the first time in live-action.
Michael Mando’s Scorpion returns from Homecoming, and fans have spotted the ninja clan The Hand lurking in shadows . Sadie Sink remains officially undisclosed, though eagle-eyed viewers believe they’ve spotted her character controlling minds from behind.
The emotional core remains Peter’s isolation. He watches old videos of MJ and Ned on his phone, people who once knew him as family now complete strangers . He visits Aunt May’s grave alone. He fights crime in a city that doesn’t know his name.
The official synopsis reads: “Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves”.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31, 2026.
