Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76.

The iconic Black Sabbath frontman passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, just weeks after performing one final time with the band in his hometown of Birmingham. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, saying he was surrounded by love in his final moments. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the Osbourne family said. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Born John Michael Osbourne in 1948, Ozzy rose from a rough upbringing in Birmingham to global stardom. He dropped out of school at 15, spent time in prison, and turned to music as a lifeline. In 1970, he and his bandmates launched Black Sabbath, pioneering a new sound that would shape heavy metal forever. Despite leaving the band in 1979, Ozzy soared as a solo act, delivering hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.”

Ozzy’s personal life was just as eventful. He battled substance abuse for years but found strength in his wife Sharon Osbourne, who helped guide his career and personal recovery. The couple became household names with their hit MTV reality show The Osbournes, introducing Ozzy to a new generation of fans.

Earlier this year, the rock icon revealed he could no longer walk unaided due to his battle with Parkinson’s disease. Still, in a powerful final performance, he reunited with Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward for one last Black Sabbath gig earlier this month.

Ozzy is survived by his wife Sharon and his five children—Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. His legacy as the “Prince of Darkness” lives on through the music, madness, and unforgettable mark he left on rock and roll.

Rest in peace, Ozzy. A true icon.
