Olivia Dean Channels Her Inner Carrie Bradshaw for Bold, Honest New Album ‘The Art of Loving’

Olivia Dean is embracing her Sex and the City era—and it’s pouring straight into her music. The 26-year-old soulful songstress has revealed that her upcoming album The Art of Loving was deeply inspired by none other than Carrie Bradshaw, the iconic columnist played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday’s Bizarre column, Olivia said:

“I’d never seen Sex and the City before, and started watching it from the beginning. I have been living my Carrie moment – her influence will be there.”

And just like Carrie, Olivia isn’t afraid to get raw about love, confusion, and heartbreak. Her track “Something In Between” captures the grey area in modern relationships—when you’re not exactly together, but not exactly strangers either.

“It’s about when you are between being with somebody and not, and you’re like, ‘I don’t want to just have you in my life, like now we are not supposed to talk?’” she shared.

Olivia’s debut album Messy (2023) had already proven she wasn’t scared of baring her soul. That record explored love after heartbreak, with standout track “Ladies Room” inspired by a hilarious—and oddly wise—drunken convo overheard in a club bathroom.

“I overheard this lady talking. She was like, ‘Girls, if I could give you any advice, never go out with a man who’s 20 years your senior,’” Olivia recalled. “I recorded her because I thought it was hilarious… but it’s illegal to record people!”

Beyond the music, Olivia also opened up about her mental health journey, crediting therapy for helping her shake off self-doubt and silence the voice of comparison.

“I was in a pattern of being very self-critical… comparing your beginning point to everyone else’s finished product. That is just the thief of joy,” she said. “I’ve been doing therapy and learning how I function. Therapy is awesome.”

With heartfelt lyrics, Carrie-inspired confidence, and a fearless approach to storytelling, Olivia Dean is ready to take center stage again—and this time, she’s doing it in heels.
