The country star says her bisexual journey has been “pretty short” after a three-week fling turned into lies, threats, and an emotional nightmare.

Maren Morris is getting brutally honest about love after coming out. The 36-year-old singer posted a TikTok video this week detailing her first experience dating a woman, and it did not go well. Morris, who came out as bisexual in June 2024 following her divorce from ex-husband Ryan Hurd, described the brief relationship as “pretty f–ked up” and “borderline extortion.” She entered the situation with clear boundaries, telling the woman she wasn’t looking for anything serious. Three weeks later, everything collapsed into chaos.

Morris was responding to a comment about her bisexual journey, which she immediately clarified has been “pretty short.” She explained that after her divorce was finalized in January 2024, she felt ready to explore a side of herself she had never publicly acknowledged. But the timing was delicate. Morris said she was upfront from the start, communicating that she didn’t have the emotional capacity for something heavy. The woman agreed. That agreement, according to Morris, turned out to be false.

“Within three weeks of this completely falling apart, it was lies, threats to my reputation, and borderline extortion,” Morris said in the now-viral clip. “It was pretty f–ked up. And for that to be my first experience, it was just so depressing.”

What shocked Morris even more was the response from her lesbian friends. When she told them what happened, they barely flinched. According to Morris, they told her this was standard. “You start seeing women and one is going to almost ruin your life,” she recalled them saying. “We’ve all been there. You just have to push through.”

Morris laughed in disbelief as she repeated the advice to her followers. “Is that a thing?” she asked. She captioned the video with two words: “bi trauma.”

For now, Morris has decided to step back entirely. “I think I’m just really cool being alone,” she said. The singer shares a six-year-old son, Hayes, with Hurd, and the two have maintained a friendly co-parenting relationship, living just minutes apart. But when it comes to romance, Morris isn’t rushing back into anything. Between confusing signals from friends who might want more and now a traumatic first same-sex experience, she’s hitting pause. The singer has previously admitted she struggles to tell the difference between deep female friendship and romantic attraction, noting that women connect emotionally so quickly that the line blurs. For now, she’s choosing peace over potential.
