A WWE star’s elevator ride turned into a criminal case. Ludwig Kaiser, known to fans as the masked El Grande Americano, was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge following a late-April incident inside a luxury Orlando apartment building. The altercation reportedly began when a neighbor objected to the wrestler’s behavior.

The WWE star battery charge stems from the evening of April 23. According to police reports, Kaiser, real name Marcel Barthel, was inside an elevator with a female companion when their kissing escalated to what authorities described as an “uncontrollably intimate” level. A neighbor sharing the elevator reportedly asked the couple to “please have some manners” after they exited on the 12th floor.

The neighbor’s request allegedly triggered an immediate physical response. The victim told police that Kaiser punched him multiple times, shoved him to the ground, and made additional threats. Responding officers noted a fresh scratch and redness on the back of the victim’s head, consistent with a recent altercation.

Building surveillance footage reportedly showed a man matching Kaiser’s description punching and pushing the victim outside the elevator. The victim later identified Kaiser through a photographic lineup.

Kaiser turned himself in on May 20 after a warrant was issued. He was booked into Orange County Jail at 2:37 PM and released later that night after posting $1,000 bail. The court has ordered him to have no contact with the victim.

The timing creates complications for the German wrestler. Kaiser is scheduled for a Mask vs. Mask match against Chad Gable on May 30 in Monterrey, Mexico, a career-defining lucha libre bout where the loser must unmask. WWE has not issued a public statement regarding the arrest.

Legal filings show Kaiser has pleaded not guilty and requested a trial. His attorney has filed discovery motions seeking access to police reports and surveillance footage. The case is now moving toward active litigation rather than a quiet resolution. For a wrestler whose entire persona relies on controlled conflict, this real-world courtroom fight carries stakes no script can match.
