Production is officially underway on Evil Dead Burn, and star Luciane Buchanan is already stirring excitement with bold promises about what fans can expect. Speaking with Collider, the 32-year-old actress teased that the upcoming horror installment is “unlike any of the other Evil Deads,” hinting at a fresh and terrifying evolution of the cult-favorite franchise.
Buchanan, best known for her roles in The New Legends of Monkey and Chief of War, said she binge-watched the previous films to prepare — but quickly realized this new chapter was something different.
“I’ve watched all the other Evil Dead’s… and when I read the script, it’s unlike any of the Evil Dead’s,” she shared. “The director has his own spin on it, and I was very excited. The actors are incredible — but I’ll leave it there.”
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who co-wrote the screenplay with Florent Bernard, Evil Dead Burn marks a bold new direction for the long-running horror saga. Vaniček, known for his unique storytelling style, posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram confirming that principal photography has begun, captioned:
“DAY 1. FROM 93 TO NZ #EVILDEADBURN”
While Buchanan didn’t spill major plot details, she hinted that filming is “technically” underway and that she’ll be “seeing them very soon,” suggesting she’s set to join the shoot imminently.
The film also stars Hunter Doohan, Souheila Yacoub, and Tandi Wright, with original Evil Deadmasterminds Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Lee Cronin attached as producers. Scheduled for release in July 2026, Evil Dead Burn will be the next major entry in a franchise that began with Raimi’s gritty 1981 original.
That first film — featuring Bruce Campbell’s now-iconic Ash Williams — spawned Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1992), and a gritty reboot in 2013 directed by Fede Álvarez. Most recently, the series returned with Evil Dead Rise in 2023, which followed a possessed mother (played by Alyssa Sutherland) wreaking havoc on her family.
Speaking previously about the long gaps between films, Raimi revealed that preserving the franchise’s soul was always the priority.
“We had to find somebody who really liked the ‘Evil Dead’ movies… but still wanted to break out and find some new territory for the audience,” he said.
With Vaniček at the helm and Buchanan already hyping the script, Evil Dead Burn looks ready to bring just that — a brand-new nightmare that still bleeds with the spirit of the originals.
Horror fans, prepare yourselves. The Deadites aren’t done yet.
