Alannah Keyser’s time in the Love Island USA villa came to an abrupt end after resurfaced footage and social media posts sparked widespread backlash. The 21-year-old Miami native, who entered Season 8 as a Casa Amor bombshell, was removed from the Peacock dating series following the emergence of a video appearing to show her using a racial slur while singing along to Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box.”
The decision was confirmed during the Thursday, June 25 episode, with narrator Iain Stirling simply announcing, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.” Her departure marks the second time this season a contestant has been removed over similar issues, following Vasana Montgomery’s exit before the season even premiered.
Shortly after her exit, Keyser addressed the controversy directly in a TikTok video. She apologized to those offended, explaining that the video is six years old and no longer reflects who she is today.
“Hi, everyone. I’m here to address things that have been circulating online,” she said. “The video is from six years ago, and that word is just not in my vocabulary anymore.”
She also pushed back on allegations from additional screenshots, calling them “falsified” and insisting that discrimination has never been part of her character. “It’s never been in my character to discriminate against anybody’s skin color. I do not support racism or discrimination of any kind, and I never have.”
Keyser also suggested that her on-screen portrayal did not tell the full story. She claimed that key interactions—particularly her conversations and connections with contestants of color during Casa Amor—were not fully aired. Her caption on the apology video read, “remember that reality tv is HEAVILY edited & my chats/kisses with the other boys were unfortunately not aired.”
Fans had already noticed her dwindling screen time before her official removal. After her debut on June 21, viewers pointed out that she had been largely edited out of subsequent episodes. She appeared only briefly in the first 20 minutes of Thursday’s episode before disappearing entirely.
The video that triggered the backlash appears to have been screen-recorded from Keyser’s private Snapchat Story. In it, she is seen singing along to “The Box,” which contains the N-word in its lyrics. Additional screenshots allegedly showed her using the slur in a private Snapchat message and an Instagram comment.
Production sources confirm that the posts came from private accounts and were not publicly accessible during Peacock’s vetting process. They only surfaced after Keyser had already joined the show.
Keyser’s removal is part of a troubling pattern for the franchise. Earlier this season, Vasana Montgomery was cut from the cast after similar videos surfaced. Last season, contestants Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega were also removed for using racial slurs in past content.
Keyser ended her TikTok apology with a black screen, writing, “the video cut but it’s always been in my nature to spread positivity and help others & I will continue to do so.” Whether that message will resonate with viewers remains uncertain. For now, her abrupt exit has become one of the season’s most talked-about moments—and another reminder of how quickly the past can catch up with reality TV contestants.
