KWN has issued an apology after receiving backlash for backpedaling on her recent comments about Keke Palmer. The British R&B singer found herself at the center of a social media storm after she revealed that naming Palmer as her celebrity crush was “kind of a joke” and that her team had suggested the answer before an interview. In an apology video posted to her social media, KWN attempted to clear up the situation, explaining that it came down to a “wrong choice of words”.

The KWN apology Keke Palmer controversy began when the singer sat down with Angie Martinez in May 2025 and named Palmer as her crush, describing her as “funny,” “sweet,” and “pretty”. Fast-forward to a September 2026 interview with Complex, where KWN said the answer had been orchestrated by her team as a “safe” choice, and named Euphoria star Alexa Demie as her actual crush instead. The admission sparked accusations of colorism, with social media users questioning why her team would suggest a dark-skinned Black woman if her real type was someone with a different phenotype.

Palmer has not directly addressed the controversy, but she posted a series of photos on Instagram with Ray J’s “Brown Sugar” playing in the background and the caption, “Yea yea yea yea yea yea yea”. The timing caught the internet’s attention, though there has been no confirmation the post was a response to KWN. The singer’s apology marks an attempt to close a chapter that ignited wider conversations about representation and colorism in entertainment.
