Kate Hudson is opening up about how her big brother Oliver Hudson supported her through one of the most difficult times in her life — her divorce from musician Chris Robinson.
The 46-year-old actress, who shares 21-year-old Ryder Robinson with Chris, reflected on that challenging period during a new episode of her Sibling Revelry podcast, which she co-hosts with Oliver. Kate and Chris ended their seven-year marriage in 2007, and now she’s sharing how Oliver became a quiet but powerful source of strength for her and her son.
“You really stepped up without me asking,” she told her brother on the podcast. “You were so stable for Ryder and myself.”
Kate added that Oliver’s support wasn’t loud or performative — it was steady and sincere.
“It’s just that you stepped up as Uncle Ollie. You were there for us,” she said. “In reflection, that time showed me I could really lean on you.”
Oliver, now 48, echoed his sister’s sentiments, explaining that their relationship is filled with “micro leanings” — small, everyday moments of support rather than grand gestures.
“It’s not always these big catastrophic events. It’s the little things,” he said.
The Almost Famous star, who’s now a mother of three, also shares Bingham “Bing” Hawn, 14, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and Rani Rose, 6, with her current partner Danny Fujikawa. She praised the special bond she and Oliver have continued to build as parents:
“We’ve created fun times with the kids,” Kate noted.
While Kate has been engaged to Danny since 2021, she recently admitted that marriage may not be on the cards anytime soon. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, she confessed she loves being engaged — but isn’t rushing to walk down the aisle.
“I like the idea of being engaged forever,” Kate said. “You have the ring, the promise, the ultimate commitment. The contractual thing is tough for me… I like my freedom.”
Through heartbreak, motherhood, and new beginnings, Kate credits her brother’s quiet presence and unwavering love as one of her greatest sources of strength. As she put it:
“I could always count on Oliver — even when I didn’t ask.”
