The final roll of the dice is taking a little longer than expected. Sony Pictures has shifted the release of Jumanji 4: The Final Level to a Christmas 2026 window, moving the highly anticipated sequel from its previously announced December 11 date. The delay comes as production wraps on what Dwayne Johnson has called the “beautiful grace note” ending to the modern franchise.

The film, which began principal photography in November 2025 in Los Angeles, marks the third and final installment in the reboot trilogy that began with 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Producer Hiram Garcia confirmed filming was underway with a photo of the core cast, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, gathered for a table read.

Fans have waited six years since Jumanji: The Next Level hit theaters in 2019. The sequel faced multiple delays due to the cast’s packed schedules and global production challenges. Now, with production moving forward, Johnson has confirmed this installment will serve as the final chapter of the saga.

“What a ride this JUMANJI journey has been,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “It’s been an honor to share the screen with him [Danny DeVito] and more importantly, to have him as a partner in this final dance.” The actor used the hashtag #TheFinalLevel, signaling the film’s official title.

The upcoming film will reunite the core avatar cast alongside returning players including Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Rhys Darby, and the teenage ensemble from earlier films. DeVito, who plays Eddie Gilpin, the character whose consciousness inhabited Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone in The Next Level, wrapped his scenes in February 2026 after three months of filming.

Johnson also revealed a touching tribute to the late Robin Williams, who starred in the original 1995 Jumanji. His character will wear the iconic dice from the first film as a necklace, a detail Johnson described as paying “homage, love and respect to the great Robin Williams”.

Director Jake Kasdan returns to helm the finale from a script by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. With the Christmas 2026 release now set, Jumanji 4: The Final Level will compete in a crowded holiday corridor. But for fans who have followed the franchise since its 1995 origins, the wait will be worth it, one last game, one final level.
