Jamie Lee Curtis Says She’s “Prepping to Get Out” of Hollywood: “I Want to Leave the Party Before I’m No Longer Invited”

Legendary actress Jamie Lee Curtis is planning her graceful exit from Hollywood. At 66, the Everything Everywhere All at Once star says she’s been quietly preparing to step away from the film industry for decades — all to avoid the painful fate that befell her famous parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis.

“I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,” Curtis revealed in a candid interview with The Guardian.

“I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful.”

“Self-Retiring for 30 Years”

Curtis says she’s been “self-retiring for 30 years,” always planning her exit strategy in case Hollywood turned its back on her like it did her parents.

“I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited,” she said frankly.

Known for roles in iconic films like Halloween, Freaky Friday, and her Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Jamie Lee has enjoyed a career of remarkable longevity — but she insists she won’t cling to the spotlight forever.

Speaking Out Against Cosmetic Surgery and AI “Perfection”

As part of her reckoning with aging and the industry’s obsession with youth, Curtis also called out the rise of cosmetic enhancements and AI filters, particularly among women in Hollywood.

“We have wiped out a generation or two of natural human [appearance]. There’s a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances,” she warned.

“The filter face is what people want. I’m not filtered right now. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it’s hard not to go, ‘Oh, well that looks better.’ But what’s better? Better is fake.”

Though she refused to name names, Curtis referenced a “recent onslaught” of celebrities succumbing to pressure for artificial beauty, warning that these trends are robbing younger generations of authenticity.

On Her Mother, Janet Leigh: “I Tried Not to Be Her”

Curtis has often spoken about the legacy of her mother, Psycho star Janet Leigh, who passed away in 2004. She admits she once fought to not become her mother — only to later realize how similar they are.

“I tried to do everything not to be my mother. And, of course, I’m very much like my mother in many, many ways,” she said.

Curtis added that her mother might have been “incredibly upset” with how she appeared in her Oscar-winning role, where she portrayed an unfiltered, unglamorous IRS agent.

“My mother’s generation would never have allowed that. But today, I have a freedom to be myself that my mother’s generation didn’t.”

Leaving on Her Own Terms

Jamie Lee Curtis may not be leaving Hollywood today or tomorrow, but her message is clear: she’s choosing when to go — before the industry decides for her.

“I’ve been prepping to get out. I don’t want to suffer the same as my family did.”

In an age obsessed with youth, filters, and perfection, Jamie Lee Curtis continues to shine by embracing imperfection, truth, and the art of a graceful exit.
