J. Cole has canceled his scheduled concert in Sacramento, California, following the tragic death of a member of his touring crew in a truck accident on the morning of the show.
The Grammy-winning rapper was set to perform at the Golden 1 Center on Thursday, August 27, as part of his The Fall-Off World Tour. However, the venue announced the cancellation in a statement, saying, “Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s show scheduled for tonight… has been canceled”. The statement also expressed condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones.
The crash occurred around 6:05 a.m. on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, northwest of Sacramento. According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck towing a trailer veered off the highway and overturned. The solo occupant of the truck, who was transporting gear from a previous tour stop in Seattle, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of South Carolina. Authorities stated drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor and are investigating whether distraction or falling asleep may have contributed to the crash.
Fans who purchased tickets for the Sacramento show through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, while third-party ticket holders should contact their point of purchase. It remains unclear if the tragedy will affect J. Cole’s next scheduled performances, which are set for Oakland, California, on August 30 and 31.
