Newly released dispatch audio indicates that actress Hayden Panettiere may have suffered an apparent overdose before her death at age 36 on Sunday, August 16. Emergency services were called to her Greenville, South Carolina, home just after 1:50 p.m. to reports of an “unresponsive female” in “cardiac arrest”.
According to dispatch audio obtained by multiple outlets, an EMT at the scene can be heard reporting to dispatchers that the call was for a suspected “overdose” and that “CPR is in progress”. Paramedics administered “advanced cardiac life support,” which can include breathing tubes, defibrillators, and emergency medication, but Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.
A representative for Panettiere told PEOPLE, “I don’t have any more information at this time, but it’s looking as though that is the case” regarding the apparent overdose. The Greenville Police Department has stated that the preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.
An “acquaintance” of Panettiere reportedly placed the 911 call. She had reportedly flown from Los Angeles to South Carolina on Saturday with her on-off partner Brian Hickerson, though it is unclear if he was the person who found her.
