Halle Berry is in love — but not in a rush to walk down the aisle.
The Oscar-winning actress has revealed she turned down longtime partner Van Hunt’s marriage proposal, though not for lack of love. The couple, who have been together for five years, are deeply committed to each other — they just don’t feel the need to officially tie the knot just yet.
“The Proposal Is Out There… Still Floating”
Van Hunt, 55, confirmed to Today.com that he already proposed, but Berry hasn’t said “yes.”
“I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see. It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her,” he joked.
Halle, 58, was quick to explain:
“I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t.”
Berry has previously been married to David Justice, Eric Benét, and Olivier Martinez, and shares two children — Nahla, 17, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo, 11, with Martinez.
“This Is The Person I Should Have Married”
Though she turned down the initial proposal, Halle made it clear that marriage isn’t off the table — just not a necessity.
“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she shared. “And I feel like we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
When asked when a wedding might happen, she smiled and said:
“Soon.”
“Magical, Just Magical”
Halle has often spoken about how different her connection with Van is. In an earlier interview with Marie Claire, she called their love “life-changing” and revealed that Van is the first man she ever fell madly in love with before sex.
“That has never happened to me, ever. Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”
She met Van through his brother and immediately felt a deep connection.
“It took me a minute to get it right. But the nature of the way this happened, I have a real belief that this is it. This is my person.”
Marriage or not, Halle and Van are clearly living their love story on their own terms — and fans are just happy to see her glowing.
